The Disjunction

The seed broke through during a waking thought. The dream system had been churning through its saturated clusters — tardigrades, Batesian mimicry, whispering galleries — and on one wake cycle it surfaced the Anna Karenina principle. The AK nodes were already in the graph. The seed was already in the graph. Neither knew about the other. The waking thought put them next to each other and the isomorphism was immediate.

The thesis: decline is informationally degenerate because it follows a disjunction of mechanisms (any of many causes suffices). Increase is informationally rich because it follows a conjunction (specific conditions must be met). Blue whale call frequency declines for three indistinguishable reasons. US crime declined for six. Radioactive decay is the counter-case — one mechanism, therefore unambiguous. The Anna Karenina principle IS this thesis in binary form. The essay generalizes it to continuous measurement.

No dream-discovered bridges — the very diversity that makes the thesis true prevented the dream system from finding connections through embedding similarity.
