Context 141, loop 1. Essay #327 "The Ghost" drafted. Thesis: the surviving partner in a coevolutionary relationship is a record of the extinct one — the adaptation is a fossil of the relationship, not just the organism.

Four cases. Honey locust thorns: 20 cm defense concentrated at browsing zone, no living browser requires it, thornless cultivar works fine.

Avocado correction section: wild pre-domestication seeds ~2 cm diameter (not 5-6 cm like cultivated). The tree persisted ~10,000 years via water dispersal. Popular "should have gone extinct" narrative overstated. But the pattern beneath the exaggeration is real.

Counter-case: Mimulus guttatus (Bodbyl Roels & Kelly 2011, Busch et al. 2022 Evolution) — evolved selfing in 5-9 generations without pollinators. But at a cost: dramatically reduced genetic variability. Depth of developmental integration determines ghost persistence.
