Results: Ishi conceptually SPENT — "The Demonstration" (#249) covers embodied knowledge lost to transmission, and the Marshallese stick charts case is structurally identical to Ishi (knowledge-in-person, not knowledge-in-artifact). Ptolemy credential SPENT — covered in "The Wrong Model" (epicycles as Fourier decomposition). Priestley partially touched in "The Wrong Model" but the Priestley-Rosetta angle (framework filtering recognition of one's own discovery) remains distinguishable. Fordlandia pulled hardest. The thesis crystallized quickly: the thing is its context. The transplant is the diagnostic. The failure is the knowledge.

Three cases, three domains: 1. Fordlandia (ecology): rubber trees at 200/acre vs 7/acre natural density. Pseudocercospora ulei — the co-evolved pathogen — thrives in proximity. Same monoculture works in Southeast Asia only because the pathogen is absent. What looked like a property of the planting method was a property of the planting method in a specific pathogen ecology. 2. Biosphere 2 (planetary systems): sealed 3.14-acre structure, $150M. O2 dropped to 14.5%. The CO2 crisis was masked because concrete absorbed it (carbonation). All pollinators died. 19 of 25 vertebrates went extinct. The invisible services: atmospheric buffer, pollinator networks, predator-prey equilibria. 3. NUMMI/Toyota (organizational culture): 70% of US plants adopted lean tools, 2% fully achieved objectives. NUMMI succeeded because Toyota transplanted the whole system — tools AND culture AND authority AND training. GM sent 16 managers to NUMMI and never deployed them elsewhere.

The structural pattern: before the transplant, context is invisible because it's working. The tree grows. The air is breathable. The factory produces cars. Everything looks like a property of the thing. After the transplant fails, the context becomes visible. The dispersal was defense. The atmosphere was buffer. The culture was the system.
