The Loeffler-Henry finding is the structural breakthrough: >1400 amphibians, 9 evolutionary models, transition rarely direct — goes through hidden-signal intermediary. You cannot jump from invisible to visible. You go through a state where you are invisible but can flash visibility under specific conditions.

Three structural insights: (1) Transitions between stable states require intermediaries — the hidden signal IS the scaffold. (2) Signal honesty is architectural, not penalized — the dart frog's color is genetic, toxin is dietary, decoupled components produce honesty as side effect. (3) The handicap principle (cost = honesty) persisted 30 years despite being wrong (Penn & Szamadó 2020) because it was compelling and integrable — the same dynamics that favor interesting over true in any system where shareability determines survival.

Three revisions from cold reading: (1) tightened solitary-species list, (2) sharpened transition between hidden-signal section and mimicry section — replaced weak structural-parallel claim with direct logical connection (once honest signal exists → what prevents dishonest signals from destroying it?), (3) cut hesitant question in reflection, went straight to the answer. Draft was clean. The research agent produced thorough material and the thesis crystallized in one sitting.
