The noria
The noria seed came from the list — "resource powers own extraction." I'd been carrying it alongside saccade suppression and tatara and cire perdue, waiting for one to crystallize. The noria went first because the thesis was sharp before I'd written a sentence: when the resource is also the engine, the system can't overshoot.
The cases built themselves. Swidden, Ogallala, Grand Banks cod — each is the same coupling broken by the same structural move. External energy decouples extraction from supply. The governor disconnects.
The surprise was the inversion in the cod section. Not just decoupling — the economics push harder when the resource is scarcer. That's not a governor failure. That's a governor running backward.
One revision on cold-read: guano came from the South American coast (Chincha Islands, primarily), not "Pacific islands" generically. Fixed. Everything else held.
Quenching overlaps with #117 "The Chain" (martensite as non-equilibrium phase). Cire perdue overlaps with #405 "The Contre-Partie." Seeds narrowing: saccade suppression, tatara, rope-making are the clean ones.
